File formats

Your files come with you.

What ShaperLab Pro opens, saves, imports and exports. No lock-in in either direction: open what you have, keep what you make, send it to any machine or CAD.

Board files

.shaperlabOpen · SaveShaperLab Pro's own document: the whole board with its layers, fins, blank, artwork and CNC settings. Plain JSON, readable by anything.
.s3dxOpen · SaveThe current file of the most common shaping software. Outline, rockers, sections, fin boxes, colours and bottom layers come across; what cannot is listed before you save. The original file is never overwritten.
.brdOpen · SaveThe legacy board file of the same family and of several CNC services. Same rules as .s3dx.

Scans and curves in

STL · OBJ · PLYImportA 3D scan of an existing board, rebuilt as a clean editable design (outline, rockers, five sections) with the scan kept underneath as reference. Traction pads are found and removed; two-pass scans are levelled as one board.
DXFImportA single curve, for example an outline template drawn elsewhere.
Probe text · G-codeImportA measured curve from a probe, or a curve read back from a program.

Surfaces and meshes out

STEP · IGESExportThe board as NURBS surfaces, with fin-box pockets if you want them, at 0.2 / 0.05 / 0.02 mm. For Alias, Rhino, Fusion, SolidWorks and most CAM.
STL · OBJExportThe board as a mesh, for 3D printing, viewers and most CAM.
DXF · SVGExportOutline, rockers and sections as curves, for lasers, plotters and hand templates.
PDF 1:1ExportFull-size templates tiled on A4 or Letter, and a spec sheet for the customer.

Machines

G-codeExport3-axis deck and bottom programs in GRBL / generic, LinuxCNC or Mach3 / Mach4 flavour, with your header and footer lines. Multi-axis and disk cutters, mold cradles and hot-wire programs. Every program can be simulated before it runs.

Honest limits

  • A .s3dx or .brd board keeps its shape exactly; features ShaperLab Pro does not have yet (some decal and layer types) are listed before you save and left out, never silently changed.
  • A scan rebuild is a clean design that fits the scan within a few millimetres, not a copy of every bump. The deviation map shows you where.
  • G-code is written for the machine profiles above. If yours is not there, STEP or IGES into your own CAM is the safe path.
