FAQ

Frequently asked.

Which machines and CAM does it work with?

ShaperLab Pro writes its own G-code: deck and bottom programs for 3-axis routers in GRBL / generic, LinuxCNC or Mach3 / Mach4 flavour, with your own header and footer lines and a saved machine file. Multi-axis and disk-cutter programs are written as tool-centre coordinates, for machines running RTCP.

If you use your own CAM, export STEP or IGES surfaces, STL or OBJ meshes, or DXF curves. Hot-wire programs are there for cutting blanks from EPS.

Can I open my existing .s3dx and .brd files?

Yes. ShaperLab Pro opens .s3dx and legacy .brd boards with their outline, sections, fin boxes, colours and bottom layers, and it can save boards back to both formats. The original file is never overwritten: saving writes a .shaperlab file next to it. If something cannot be carried over, it is listed before the board opens.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with macOS 12 Monterey or later, or a PC with Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). On Windows the installer needs no administrator rights and keeps your settings and licence when you install a newer build over it. The app speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The licence is activated once, offline, and checked on your computer. The app loads nothing from the internet and has no analytics or telemetry. Beta keys expire on the date shown in the app.

When paid plans start, they will be checked online from time to time and keep working for 14 days without a connection.

Where are my files?

Your boards are .shaperlab files wherever you save them. Autosave, your last eight boards and your settings live in the app's profile folder: ~/Library/Application Support/ShaperLab Pro on a Mac, %APPDATA%\ShaperLab Pro on Windows. Nothing is uploaded. Uninstalling leaves that folder in place, so a reinstall keeps your work and licence.

How do updates work?

During the beta, testers receive each new build directly, with a changelog of what changed. Install it over the old one: settings, licence and boards stay. The app has an update check, but it is switched off in the current build, so nothing is sent.

What's included in the beta?

The beta is free. Testers get the app with the full set of tools we are testing — design, 3D layers, exports and CNC — and every update during the beta. Your licence key is personal and tied to you; builds and keys are confidential until we make them public. It is a beta: always check G-code in the simulation and with an air cut before you cut foam.

Help inside the app

Help ▸ topics covers every tool that ships, in English, Spanish and Portuguese, offline. A guided tour walks one board from template to G-code.

Help ▸ Report a problem… shows exactly what the report holds before you send or save it. Never file paths, keys, your name or e-mail.
